The future is finally here; thanks to Microsoft’s new invention called “Holoportation”.

Imagine having someone hundreds or thousands of miles away right in front of you face-to-face; and you can interact with them in real-time!

With this new technology by Microsoft Research, it uses 3D motion capture and Microsoft’s HoloLens that mixed reality hardware to “holoport” people from one place to another. Anyone can now appear real in front of you and interact with you as if they’re real, right in your house, office or anywhere. Wow.

Also, the technology can be used live, but you can also create the 3D recordings that can be scaled and played back; meaning, you can now interact with past events as if it’s happening now!

So, what really is Holoportation?

“It’s a new type of 3D capture technology that allows high-quality 3D models of people to be reconstructed, compressed and transmitted anywhere in the world in real time. When combined with mixed reality displays such as HoloLens, this technology allows users to see, hear, and interact with remote participants in 3D as if they are actually present in the same physical space. Communicating and interacting with remote users becomes as natural as face-to-face communication.”

I know it sounds too good to be true; well, watch this video to see the new Microsoft Holoportation technology in action:

So, now that people can appear real in real-time simultaneously in two places; how do you know the person in front of you is real, or do you have to shake everyone in front of you to know if they’re real? Sounds very funny, but might soon be a question to ask.
