Why is my Asus VivoBook X515JA so Slow?

There can be multiple reasons why your laptop is performing poorly. You may notice a significant delay when trying to log in or when launching applications, leading to an overall slow experience. This can be due to a variety of factors, such as having too many background processes running or a hard drive that is becoming full.

Here are some of the common causes for the Asus VivoBook X515JA laptop’s slow performances:

  • Virus or Malware: A virus or malware infection can slow down your laptop significantly. While purchasing antivirus software may seem like the solution, most paid antivirus programs are not very effective, and some free ones can even be viruses themselves. Instead, you can use the built-in Windows Defender to keep your system protected.
  • Full Hard Drive: If your hard drive is almost full, it can slow down your laptop’s performance. To solve this, consider cleaning up your computer by deleting old files, movies, games, programs, and TV shows that you no longer use.
  • Old Hardware: Your laptop may be ageing, and it may be time to upgrade or replace it. In some cases, the CPU can overheat, causing slow performance. A cooling pad can help improve airflow and prevent overheating.
  • Outdated Windows: Keeping your Windows up-to-date can help improve the performance of your laptop.
Ways to make your Laptop Faster

Ways to make your Laptop Faster?

  • As I previously stated, you may need to start deleting apps, games, and movies that you no longer use.
  • You may also have a virus or malware on your laptop, which will not only slow it down but will also drain its battery faster than usual, so updating your Windows and using Windows defender will help solve that problem.
  • It might be time to close some windows. I’m guilty of this, and to be honest, I’m not always ready to close some chrome tabs. However, you should close them because they slow down your system.
  • You can also upgrade the RAM on your laptop, which usually speeds it up.
  • Also, one major thing you can do is upgrade your HDD to an SSD. The average HDD is about 4500rpm, while an average SSD is about 5 times faster than that. Getting an SSD will greatly improve the speed of your laptop and provide an overall boost in performance.
  •  When your ASUS laptop overheats frequently, it may freeze and become unresponsive. In this case, you can inspect the fan and heat sink for dust accumulation. Open your laptop properly with a screwdriver or similar tool, then blow the dust off the vents with a vacuum cleaner or a can of compressed air.
  • Numerous potential issues in Windows 10 may be related to the ASUS laptop running slowly, such as the previously mentioned malware attack, registry errors, invalid system disc errors, computer lagging issues, and more.
  • If your ASUS laptop is running very slowly for no apparent reason, you can perform a diagnostic, check for file system errors, and repair bad sectors on the hard drive. You must also perform disc optimization to defrag the partition. CCleaner can assist you in resolving Windows registry errors or other Windows system issues.
How to Upgrade the RAM on Your Asus VivoBook X515JA

How to Upgrade the RAM on Your Asus VivoBook X515JA?

It is very simple to upgrade the RAM on your Asus VivoBook X515JA. The first step is to remove the laptop’s bottom case by removing the seven screws underneath with a Philips-head screwdriver. There is one screw. However, that requires a Torx 8H screwdriver to remove. After that, carefully pry the cover of your VivoBook X515JA away from the clips that are holding it together.

After that, you should be able to see the entire insides of your laptop. Then, using your Philips head screwdriver, remove all of the screws that are connected to the battery. As a result, you can remove the battery by pulling it straight out. Following that, try pressing the power button a few times to discharge the capacitors.

The thermal transfer shield for the RAM modules must then be removed by simply pulling it up, which should be very easy. After that, you should see your RAM sticks in a single-channel configuration. This is because, while you may have two different sets of RAM sticks, one is soldered to the motherboard while the other can be removed. So, depending on the amount of RAM you have, you should either see two 8GB sticks of RAM for 16GB or two 4GB sticks of RAM for 8 GB.

The RAM stick should automatically pop out when you slide the one clip that is holding it out. Then, carefully remove your RAM from the chamber and set it aside in a secure location. A quick reminder: The RAM may be damaged if it is handled carelessly or if you touch it or its golden connections. Ensure that you are holding the RAM at the edge.

The last step is to simply pick up the new RAM, slip it into the slot, and then gently press it until you hear a click. Make sure you are aware of how many RAM channels your computer has so that you may avoid purchasing additional RAM, as some laptops, like this one, just have one. All you have to do is use your Torx and Philips-head screwdrivers to screw everything back together after installing your new RAM.

How to Install a New SSD onto Your Asus VivoBook X515JA?

Upgrading or swapping out the SSD on your Asus VivoBook X515JA is a very simple process; all you have to do is take your screwdriver. Preferably, use a Torx 8H screwdriver set and unscrew all of the bolts at the bottom of your laptop. However, before removing your hard drives or SDD, you should make sure to back up all of your files onto a separate external hard disc.

You’ve got three sets of screws at the bottom of the laptop. There are short ones at the bottom, medium ones in the middle, and then long ones at the top. Once you remove all of the screws, you can use a prying tool or a guitar pick to remove the bottom of your Asus VivoBook X515JA. After that, you should be able to see the entire insides of your laptop.

At first glance, you should be able to notice your SSD at the top of the motherboard, just above the system fan. Then your mechanical HDD should be right next to the main battery on the laptop.

Then, using your Philips head screwdriver, remove all of the screws that are connected to the battery. As a result, you can remove the battery by pulling it straight out. Following that, try pressing the power button a few times to discharge the capacitors.

Then, once your battery has been removed, you can remove your SSD by unscrewing a small bolt in front of it, and then it should pop up at a 45-degree angle. From there, you can just slide it out and then slowly push in the new SSD you have at a 45-degree angle. After that, all you have to do is push it down and screw on the bolt that was holding your SSD.

How to Upgrade Your HDD to an SSD on the Asus VivoBook X515JA?

Upgrading the HDD on your Asus VivoBook X515JA to an SSD is a very simple process. To upgrade the storage on your mechanical hard drive, you will have to remove the mechanical hard drive, which is located next to your battery. The first thing you will need to do is remove your HDD by taking it out of the rubber caddy, and then release the flex cable by removing it from the jack by lifting the jack at a 90-degree angle and slowly pulling off the flex cable.

Once the HHD has been removed, you will need to cut off the aluminium tape covering the adapter, and then you will need to remove the adapter by pulling it backwards and then gently removing the adapter off it. Then you will need to remove the rubber caddy holding the hard drive by pulling it apart.

Then, once you have removed your old hard drive from the rubber caddy, you can either install a new hard drive, an SSD, or a larger HDD into the rubber caddy in the exact same orientation as the old one, and then you can attach your adapter on top of it. Then place it into the hard drive slot and then attach your flex cable to the jack.

To place your flex cable into the jack, you will need to slide it in at a 45-degree angle and then gently push it into the jack.

Once that is done, all you will have to do is put everything back together the way it was, close your laptop, lock in your bottom screws, and then reinstall Windows on your laptop. That is how you install a new SSD into your Asus VivoBook X515JA laptop.
