Does the Asus VivoBook X515JA Have a Webcam?

Yes, the Asus VivoBook X515JA laptop does have a 480p webcam; however, you may find its video and image quality to be unsatisfactory. The webcam resolution is low, and the field of view is very narrow. Additionally, pictures taken with this camera appear to be fuzzy and too bright.

If you’re looking for more robust performance from your laptop’s webcam, you may want to consider a different model like the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15 (2021). It offers better video quality with slightly sharper details and less overexposure. Plus, it includes a physical switch that can be used to manually close the webcam for added privacy – however, this does not deactivate the camera software.

The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15 (2021) laptop also comes with a Windows Hello-compatible IR camera, which can be used for facial recognition authentication but not all models support this feature.

Overview

Buying a laptop with a good webcam can be beneficial in a variety of ways. It simplifies video chatting with friends, attending virtual meetings and recording video footage without the need for an external webcam. However, inbuilt webcams are mostly not as good as external ones.

So, in this article, asides from the Asus VivoBook X515JA webcam, I will be discussing and comparing five budget-friendly laptops with good webcams, as well as the top three webcams with microphones.

With this in mind, I will provide some insights into which webcams might be suitable for you and whether it is worth buying a wired external webcam or not.

5 Budget-Friendly Laptops with Good Webcams

Here are a few laptops that have good webcams, so if you are on a budget, you won’t be left looking a little washed out on screen.

The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15 (2021)

1. The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15 (2021)

The video quality of the Idea Pad’s webcam is adequate. It captures some fine details, such as the writing on the bottle or the cards, but the entire image is overexposed, resulting in washed-out colours.

The privacy cover is only a physical switch; it does not deactivate the camera software, so it can still record audio when closed. Finally, Lenovo’s specifications indicate a Windows Hello-compatible IR camera for facial recognition login, but we were unable to activate it in Windows.

The battery lasts for over nine hours of light productivity.

It feels well-built.

You can’t charge the laptop via USB-C.

Keyboards can cause fatigue over an extended period.

Acer Aspire 5

2. Acer Aspire 5

The webcam worked fine. The image appears to be fairly clear, with good colours; however, there is some noise, and smaller details are difficult to see due to compression artefacts. However, the images will still appear to have some fringing in the background, and while it has a 720p camera, it could still be much better.

The laptop and charger are very portable.

The keyboard is very comfortable.

Cons:

It has a short battery life.

The screen doesn’t get bright enough outside.

Lenovo IdeaPad 1 (15.6-inch, AMD)

3. Lenovo IdeaPad 1 (15.6-inch, AMD)

The webcam on the IdeaPad is pretty mediocre and should not really be considered great. It is a 720p camera that does pretty well in very bright conditions but handles very poorly in low-light situations. However, I still feel very guilty criticising it when more expensive cameras have worse webcams, which is still very baffling to me.

The Asus VivoBook Flip 14

4. The Asus VivoBook Flip 14

This VivoBook webcam is only passably good and shouldn’t be regarded as exceptional. It is a 720p camera that performs admirably in extremely bright surroundings but horribly in less-lit environments. There is some noise, though, and compression artefacts make it challenging to notice minor details.

Specs

CPUCore i3-1115G4,
GPUIntel UHD Graphics
RAM & Storage4GB and 128GB
Display 14” FHD Touch
OSWindows 10

Pros

  • Impressive Display
  • Impressive Speakers
  • Solid Battery Life.

Cons

  • Limited Storage.

Price on Amazon: $385.

Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5

5. Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5

The quality of the webcam on the Flex 5 is very decent but could be better. It is strange to see such a great laptop with such a mediocre 720p webcam, but at this point, I’m not surprised to see such a limited camera because most companies cheap out on their webcams. It has a balanced look, and pictures don’t look too washed out, but it is also not too bright and doesn’t handle low-light situations very well.
