LG Electronics has secured prestigious eco-certifications for its 2025 OLED TV lineup, marking the fifth consecutive year of recognition from the Carbon Trust for the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability and carbon reduction initiatives.
The latest certification validates LG’s ongoing efforts in reducing environmental impact across its product lifecycle, from manufacturing to disposal. The company’s OLED evo TVs have received both Reducing CO2 and Measured CO2 certifications, demonstrating significant achievements in sustainable technology development.
A standout feature of LG’s environmental innovation is the self-emissive technology in OLED TVs, which eliminates the need for backlighting. This advancement has enabled a 20% weight reduction in the 65-inch OLED evo TV compared to traditional LCD TVs, while achieving a remarkable 60% decrease in plastic usage.
The company projects substantial environmental benefits for 2025, anticipating a reduction of approximately 16,000 tons in plastic consumption through OLED TV production compared to equivalent LCD TV manufacturing. This initiative is expected to decrease carbon emissions by 84,000 tons during manufacturing and transportation – equivalent to the annual CO2 absorption of a 30-year-old pine forest spanning 11,000 football fields.
Baik Seon-pill, head of Product Planning Division at LG Media Solution Company, emphasized the company’s environmental commitment: “LG OLED TVs provide exceptional picture quality and advanced AI features within an eco-conscious design that minimizes carbon footprint throughout the product lifecycle.”
The company has also achieved Resource Efficiency certification from Intertek, recognizing LG’s efforts in recyclable design, reduced harmful substance usage, and improved repairability. This certification further solidifies LG’s position as an industry leader in sustainable manufacturing practices.
In its push toward circular economy principles, LG has made significant progress in recycled material usage. The company incorporated 30% recycled plastic in TV production during 2024, successfully recycling 6,300 tons of waste plastic. Plans for 2025 include increasing recycled plastic usage to 50%, targeting approximately 7,700 tons of annual plastic waste recycling.
LG’s environmental leadership extends beyond product certifications. The company has maintained its position on the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for thirteen consecutive years, standing as the only South Korean company in its category to achieve this distinction.
As the consumer electronics industry faces increasing pressure to address environmental concerns, LG’s achievements in sustainable design and manufacturing set new benchmarks for corporate environmental responsibility while maintaining technological innovation.
