Liverpool has put forth a revamped offer of €134 million (£113 million) to acquire Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. This enticing bid for the sought-after Germany international includes an upfront payment of €118.7 million (£100 million) plus an additional €15.4 million (£13 million) in performance-related add-ons, with the majority of the funds guaranteed. It is important to note that Liverpool does not plan to reach the reported €150 million (£126.4 million) asking price for the talented playmaker. Bayer Leverkusen, eager to avoid allowing Wirtz to enter the final year of his contract, which extends until 2027, is likely to respond to this proposal.
Last week, Fabrizio Romano revealed that Liverpool had previously made an offer worth up to €130 million (£109 million) for the 22-year-old, which included a guaranteed amount along with potential bonuses.
Wirtz has become a pivotal target for Liverpool this summer, and he himself is enthusiastic about a transfer to Anfield. The Athletic reported on May 23 that Bayern Munich, who also had eyes on Wirtz, were informed of his preference for joining Liverpool. Following this, the Merseyside club initiated discussions with Leverkusen for the attacking midfielder’s signature.
Wirtz has already explored the northwest of England in search of housing in anticipation of a potential transfer. He played a pivotal role in Bayer Leverkusen’s historic achievement of clinching their first-ever Bundesliga title with an unbeaten domestic season in 2023-24, contributing an impressive 18 goals and 20 assists. His outstanding performance earned him the coveted Bundesliga Player of the Season award. In the most recent campaign, Wirtz scored 16 goals and provided 15 assists, helping Leverkusen to a commendable second-place finish.
Since debuting for Leverkusen’s first team in the 2019-20 season, Wirtz has amassed a remarkable total of 122 goal contributions (57 goals, 65 assists) across 197 matches. He has also represented Germany on 29 occasions.
This summer, discussions began between Liverpool and Leverkusen after the recently crowned Premier League champions activated wing-back Jeremie Frimpong’s release clause, estimated at around €35 million (£29.6 million, $39.3 million). The 24-year-old Dutch player has agreed to a five-year contract, with Skysports reporting on May 17 that he was set to undergo a medical.
