Gaming is the most lucrative part of the entertainment and tech industries; it is on everyone’s phones, PCs, consoles, and even some smart TVs. Gaming is an integral part of many gamers’ lives, and it is something a lot of us do. Whether you’re a hardcore gamer or a casual one, at some point in our lives, we all play games to pass the time, and in 2024, there will be a lot of cool and awesome games released.
So, congratulations, gamers! You have survived yet another year filled with exciting new game releases one after the other, heartbreaking postponements and cancellations, and strange, tribalistic arguments about the finest console. All jokes aside, 2023 was a great year for video games, with hits including Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Baldur’s Gate 3, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Diablo IV, and—just a few days ago—Alan Wake 2 all making regular releases. In contrast to the drab 2022, we’ve been eating really well lately.
Fortunately, 2024 is already looking like it will be a great year for excellent video game launches. So, it would be a great idea to look at some of the most highly anticipated games to start 2024 with and see which ones should be on your radar and which ones might not have been on your radar but really should be.
1. Final Fantasy Rebirth
Like its predecessor, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second game in Square Enix’s trilogy of remakes, aims to recreate the cherished 1997 role-player in both gameplay and narrative. This time, Cloud and Company will be joined by beloved characters like the chain-smoking engineer Cid, the endearing Cait Sith, and the red-cloaked hero Vincent Valentine in their efforts to stop Sephiroth from destroying the planet. However, this time, Sephiroth appeared to be acting very differently…
Platform: PS5,
Release Date: February 29, 2024.
2. Yakuza Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth marks the first time in Yakuza history that the series is travelling to America—more specifically, Hawaii. The babyface Ichiban Kasuga and the mainstream Yakuza veteran Kiryu Kazuma, two of the series’ hardest heroes, will be yours to control in Infinite Wealth as they search Honolulu for Ichiban’s mother, who has been missing for a long time.
Platforms: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Windows
Release Date: January 26, 2024.
3. Persona 3 Reloaded
Persona 3 Reload is a complete replica of Atlus’ highly influential 2006 turn-based PlayStation 2 role-playing game Persona 3. Along with it, the game’s already amazing soundtrack gets even better with new original songs, a voice cast, and a much-needed visual makeover. I can’t wait to hammer through my workweek while blasting “Mass Destruction” on repeat.
Platforms: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Windows
Release Date: February 2, 2024.
4. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
Fans of the well-liked platformer series Prince of Persia have been waiting a long time for a new game in the franchise. They will now, after years of suffering, have the opportunity to visit Ubisoft’s multidecade realm once more with the recently revealed 2D title Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. Even though the Sands of Time remake is still a ways out, it’s nice to have a brand-new, original Prince of Persia game to look forward to in the interim.
Platforms: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Switch, Windows
Release Date: January 18, 2024.
5. Rise of the Ronin
With their upcoming game, Rise of the Ronin, Nioh and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty developers, Team Ninja hope to emulate what Elden Ring did for the Soulslike genre by providing an open environment for players to explore. That makes it similar to Ghost of Tsushima, I suppose, but with Team NInja’s brand of savagery in place of Sucker Punch Productions’ fighting.
Platforms: PS5
Release Date: March 22, 2024.
6. Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2
Senua’s Sacrifice: Hellblade II is one of the largest Xbox exclusives coming in 2024. It hasn’t been given a release date yet, but the teaser from The Game Awards was really powerful. This new Icelandic environment for the excellent action-adventure game from 2017 seems to make it just as thrilling and eerie as the original. While a lot about Hellblade II is still unknown, I can’t wait to learn more from developer Ninja Theory in the upcoming months.
Platforms: Xbox Series X/S and PC
Release Date: 2024.
7. S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2: Heart of Chernobyl
Despite a difficult production cycle, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl’s 2007 release was an intense, thrillingly dark, and eerie journey through the aftermath of the biggest nuclear tragedy to ever strike the Soviet Union. Soon after, there were two more critical acclaim, modding scenes, and even fan gatherings. However, where was the authentic follow-up to this peculiar trio? Development limbo once more. And that was before Russia invaded GSC Game World’s home country of Ukraine. That certainly put a wrench in the works.
However, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is finally drawing to a close, and with another fifteen years of video game technological advancement behind us, we are all set to re-enter the Zone. What terrors lie ahead in this wasteland plagued by radioactive waste?
Platforms: Xbox Series X/S, Windows
Release Date: Early 2024.
8. Tekken 8
The newest game in the stylish fighting game series, Tekken 8, is scheduled to release in January. It remains to be seen if the well-known fighter will make as much of an impact at launch as longstanding rival Street Fighter did with Street Fighter 6. The only reason I’m rooting for Tekken 8 to succeed is that it’s the only game that features my favourite luchador, King.
Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Windows
Release Date: January 26, 2024.
9. Star Wars Dark Forces Remaster
Doom had a big impact on 3D PC games released after it in December 1993, causing them to be called “Doom clones.” LucasArts’ Dark Forces from 1995 was very similar to id Software’s Doom, so it’s fair to call it a clone. Before the era of 3D acceleration, it was unusual for a game to be better than Doom in multiple aspects. However, this particular game managed to surpass Doom in several areas, making it a highly memorable shooter.
Over the years, enthusiasts have laboured to create software that would facilitate Dark Forces’ playability on modern PCs, incorporate enhancements to the quality of life, and so on. The Force Engine didn’t begin to accomplish this until this past December, and shortly Night Dive Studio’s vintage remaster experts will attempt to bring this enjoyable, significant, and iconic blaster to all the main systems as well.
Platforms: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Switch, Windows
Release Date: February 28, 2024.
10. Destiny 2: The Final Shape
Finally, gamers can explore The Traveller, the large white ball outside Destiny 2’s fortress. They have been curious about it for almost a decade. In Destiny 2’s “Light and Darkness” saga, The Final Shape is the last part. Here, you must face The Witness, a clever enemy aiming to utilise The Traveler’s Light to annihilate the galaxy. Destiny 2’s new edition includes new Solar, Void, and Arc supers, as well as exotic weaponry. Fight to save the world with flair.
Platforms: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Windows
Release Date: June 4, 2024.
Conclusion
While 2024 may not have GTA 6 in its headlights, there are still a lot of incredible games to look forward to, and from what I can see from the early 2024 list, there are going to be a lot of amazing games to play in 2024. Once again, I’d like to thank you so much for reading this article, and I’d also like to wish you a happy and successful new year.
