Apple’s Vision Pro Headsets to Launch in February

It’s finally here: according to an announcement from Apple, the Vision Pro headset will begin arriving in the US on February 2. Also, on January 19 at 8 AM ET, preorders will begin.

Apple not only declared the availability of its $3,499 headset but also disclosed the cost of the Zeiss prescription lenses that come with it. Prescription lenses will cost $149, and readers will be available for an additional 99 dollars. The following accessories are included with the Vision Pro base model, which has 256 GB of storage:

  • Dual Loop Band and Solo Knit Band
  • Two light seal cushions and a light-seal
  • Cover for Apple Vision Pro
  • A polishing cloth,
  • A USB-C charging cord,
  • A USB-C power adapter.

How Has Apple Talked About this Headset?

During its Worldwide Developer Conference in June of last year, Apple initially unveiled the Vision Pro headset. With a 4K display for each eye and a crank on the side of the headset, the $3,499 Vision Pro allows you to alternate between augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR).

The new R1 chip, which is devoted to processing data from integrated sensors, cameras, and microphones, and Apple’s proprietary M2 chip powers the device. Because the device has eye, head, and hand tracking capabilities, users may also use it to navigate the interface without a controller.

Apple has primarily shown off the device’s ability to see and interact with spatial movies captured with the iPhone 15 Pro, as well as using well-known apps like FaceTime, Photos, and Movies. According to the company, the Apple TV app will provide customers access to over 150 3D movies.

The headgear runs visionOS, Apple’s new operating system, which the company claims works with the majority of iPhone and iPad apps without requiring any extra work from developers, making those integrations viable.

Opinion

While the Vision Pro has all the makings of an incredible VR&AR headset, it remains to be seen whether its over $3000 price point will be a sticking point for consumers. I have to commend Apple for taking the time to consider what the future of the VR&AR space would look like for them, and in their own Apple way, they’ve designed a headset that will most likely revolutionise the VR&AR space the way the iPhone did for them. Whether that is for the better or worse remains to be seen, and we can only hope for the best at this point.
